Special announcements for an actor's birthday, the release of a new film, a first peek, and so on have become the usual in show business. As a result, it's no surprise that Ashika Ranganath's debut in Kollywood was announced late on Wednesday, just before her birthday on Thursday. As it turns out, Ashika will make her Tamil cinema debut with Sarkunam's Atharvaa sequel. “I'd been getting proposals from Tamil and Telugu films for a while, but due to my Kannada commitments, I couldn't commit to any. I decided to take the leap now that my calendar is cleared and the right project has presented itself. The fact that they were prepared to alter dates so that I could come on board, even though the film was on a tight schedule, really affected me,” says Ashika, who adds that the as-yet-untitled film is a family entertainer in which she plays Kabaddi. “The crew viewed my training videos and thought I was a good fit for the athlete position because I'm not only skinny but also a fitness freak,” she says.
